WMS

Students at WMS receive enrichment opportunities in a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

  • Spelling Bee:  All 7th-8th grade students take a pre-test in their Language Arts classes the week of October 23 and the top spellers will be invited to the WMS School Bee on November 28.  The top spellers at the WMS School Bee are invited to the WCS District Spelling Bee in December.
  • NewzBrain: All 7th-8th graders can request a NewzBrain account to have access to a Weekly Quiz Bowl Challenge.  Each week, there is a 20 question multiple choice quiz available and leaders will be posted on the NewzBrain Leaderboard Page.
  • International Academic Contests (IAC):  All 7th-8th grade students will have an opportunity to participate in a Science, Geography, and or History Bee in January.  The top scorers in each Bee will be invited to a WMS School Bee in March.
  • MATHCOUNTS:  This club will meet weekly after school and/or during Warrior Time to prepare for the MATHCOUNTS Competition Series which is held in the spring.  Other math contests including SIGMA and in-person contests at other schools (Central High Math Contest) will also be available throughout the year.
  • Science Olympiad:  The rules/events for 2023-2024 Science Olympiad will be released on September 5.  Check the WMS Science Enrichment page for up-to-date information.
  • Writing Contests:  A variety of writing contests are available throughout the year.  Some contests are sponsored by YoungWriters and others will be offered at the school level.  All writing contests will be available on the EY Website.
  • Quiz Bowl:  This club will meet weekly during Warrior Time and sometimes after school to prepare for various competitions throughout the school year.
  • Battle of the Books:  Interested students will read books to prepare for a day-long celebration of learning in April at ESU #3.  The 23-24 book list can be found here.
  • Classroom:  Individual teachers differentiate within the classroom often providing students with choices on how to demonstrate their learning.
  • Electives & Extra Curricular Activities: Elective courses (art, band, language, music, etc.), after-school clubs (chess, D&D, Rubik’s Cube, etc.), and sports allow students to hone-in on their interests and passions.
