Pi Day (March 14) is a little over a month away and so the next several Math Minute posts will be dedicated to this topic.  There will be some sort of prize to the student(s) and/or classroom(s) that get the most involved in these Pi posts.  Each Math Minute post suggests several ways in which you can participate!

###### How can I spend my Math Minutes this week?
• Memorize 100,000 digits of pi using this site:  http://www.geom.uiuc.edu/~huberty/math5337/groupe/digits.html  OK…that might be a little extreme, but get some friends together and come up with a song, jingle, poem, etc. and record yourselves reciting some digits of pi.  Send your 60 second or less video to the EY coordinator at your building.
• Find your “Pi Day” using this site: http://mypiday.com Type in your birthday and record where in pi your date appears.  In your class, see whose birthday appears the soonest in pi.  My birthday (5161975) appears at digit 110,359 in pi.
• Watch “A Mile of Pi” on Numberphile: https://youtu.be/0r3cEKZiLmg and then come up with a creative way to show the digits of pi in your classroom, school, at home, etc.  Take a picture of your creation and send it to the EY coordinator at you building.
• Do some research on Pi and leave a comment below sharing something new you learned.  Be sure to include the source of your information.  When leaving a comment, make sure to include your first name only, grade level, and school (i.e. Tyler, 6, Sunset).
